Top Films of 2010 in Fantasy

The year 2010 was a rather nice year for fantasy-loving moviegoers. This list is a subjective introduction of the year's best fantasy films on the big screen.

Feel free to leave a comment if you disagree with anything on the list.

Alice in Wonderland

Subgenre: Fantasy Adventure

A beautiful rendition of the classic tale directed by Tim Burton was one of the highest grossing films of the year. This time Alice is on her second visit to the wonderland and has to slay the dragon-creature called Jabberwocky.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 1

Subgenre: Epic Fantasy

The final book of Rowling's seven part book series required two films to cover, which should be great news for all lovers of the movies. The Deathly Hollows: Part 1 received almost universally positive reviews and despite a naturally inconclusive ending is very recommended viewing.

How to Train Your Dragon

Subgenre: Animated Fantasy

DreamWorks' splendid artwork and a touching story combine to make one great animated movie for the whole family. If you missed it in the movies, you'll need 3D BluRay support to enjoy all of it, but the 2D version is also highly enjoyable.

Rare Exports Inc.

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale

Depending on where you live, chances are you missed this Finnish fantasy film about the origins of Santa Claus. Recommended for a totally different take on fantasy movies, you can have an idea about what to expect if you check out the earlier Rare Exports Inc. short on YouTube.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Subgenre: Romance

You either like Twilight or you don't, but a list of 2010 movies on fantasy wouldn't be complete without Eclipse, the third part in the saga. Personally, I'm not a fan, but I'd like to see how they can twist the fourth book into a marketable motion picture.
